Never agree to an immediate showing
unless you are fully ready for it; for example, someone calling from
their car parked outside the house. If they can’t come back at a
more suitable time, they are unlikely to be a real buyer no matter
what they say.
The number one consideration when showing your house is:
SAFETY!!!
Never ever show your house alone if you can possibly avoid it, and
if you are alone, NEVER after dark no matter what!
Do not open the door after dark to someone who rings the bell
wanting to see the house.
It’s a good idea to make ALL showings by appointment only!
Don’t be tempted by someone who says that this is their only chance
to see it as they have traveled a long distance and won’t be able to
come back. If someone is that interested, they WILL make time to see
it on another day. Just tell them that you have company and to
please call and make an appointment. You should consider putting “By
Appointment Only” on your sign, website and flyers.
If you live alone, consider putting an extra toothbrush, shaving
kit, perfume or so on in the bathroom medicine cabinet and maybe
hang a coat belonging to the opposite sex in the hall closet.
If you have to show alone and can’t get one of your neighbors to
come and stay during the showing, here’s an idea. |
