Put your draining board under the
sink after you have finished with it; more counter space.
Never leave any dirty dishes in the sink. Wash and dry them right
away or put them in the dishwasher and make sure you run it and
empty it before the buyers arrive.
Check under your sink for any staining or signs of old leaks and put
some fresh contact paper down. While you are at it, clear out all
those cleaning products you never use.
Empty a box of baking soda down your garbage disposal and run it.
Don’t ever leave any food sitting in the disposal or it will smell
when the buyer turns it on.
I know that you have to live there, but try to avoid cooking
anything which leaves a strong lingering odor such as cabbage,
broccoli and so on.
A good way to cover up offensive odors in the kitchen is to have a
small pot on the stove with some potpourri and water and just let it
simmer gently (watch out it doesn’t run dry!).
The kitchen is the place where you must have a lot of light, so
ensure the highest watt light bulbs are in place.
PETS
This one may be hard or seem impossible for you. A lot of people
have allergies to pet dander and some are even afraid of animals. If
you can bear to do it, try to have “Fluffy” stay at Aunt Marge’s
while your house is on the market.
At the very least, you must get the pets out of the way during Open
House. Don’t just put the dog in the backyard and move him when
buyers want to see the outside. This makes for a very awkward
showing and will sometimes cause prospects to cut their visit short
saying “Oh don’t bother, I can see enough from the window”. The idea
is to get the visitors feeling that they already live in the “home”,
not that they are being a nuisance. |
